Vince DelMonte was not always spectacularly muscular. In high school, his nickname was “Skinny Vinny.” The nickname even followed him to college, where at 6 feet; he weighed in at 150 pounds and 13 percent body fat. After graduation, the long-distance runner hung up his track shoes and began his quest to get the ripped, muscular body he’d always wanted.
Unfortunately, he didn’t get the body he was hoping for. Instead, Skinny Vinny became fat Skinny Vinny. His workouts were doing nothing to get him to his dream body. That is until he realized that he couldn’t eat whatever he wanted to. So he began eat the right foods along with increasing the frequency, intensity and volume of his workouts.
DelMonte offers this advice. First, make a plan for both your workout and your meals. Next, increase the work you do each week in the gym. Third, if you’re not growing, you’re not eating enough. Next, rest and refuel. Fifth, add variety to your workout. Sixth, learn the proper lifting technique. Finally, stay balanced.
